The answer, first. A synthetic four-amino-acid peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, designed at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in the 1990s from a bovine pineal extract called Epithalamin. The strongest evidence is for telomerase activity and telomere length, graded D — animal or mechanism only.
Epitalon lengthened telomeres dose-dependently in normal human cell lines by raising hTERT and telomerase activity, replicated independently at Brunel University in 2025 5.
Both experiments are cell culture. No human telomere measurement exists 1. Every other use — lifespan and tumour incidence, mortality in older adults, melatonin rhythm in older adults — grade D or E: animal or mechanism data with no controlled human outcome.
What it is used for
Every use graded on its own evidence, not the compound as a whole. 4 outcomes, ranked by what the human record supports.
How it works
The proposed mechanism, in three steps. A mechanism is a reason to run a trial, never a substitute for one.
What it does not do
Claims the current record does not support. Worth knowing before you set expectations.
- Epithalon extends human lifespan. No trial has given this peptide to people and counted deaths. The mortality figures belong to a different preparation 23.
- Epithalon lengthens telomeres in people. Telomere length has never been measured in a human given epitalon. Every telomere result is cell culture 15.
- Western science replicated the human findings. One 2025 UK laboratory replicated the cell-culture telomere effect 5. No group outside St Petersburg has repeated the clinical work.
- Safe because it is only four amino acids. Size does not establish safety. FDA flags immunogenicity and impurity risk and states it has no safety data for the proposed route 10.
How it is used
What published protocols administered, and what the community reports doing. Descriptive on both counts, and never a recommendation.
This site does not publish protocols to follow. The doses above are what studies administered or what users report, stated as facts about the literature and the market. How protocols are structured, mixing and storage and the reconstitution calculator cover the arithmetic.
What to expect
Where a trial measured it, the trial. Where only the community reports it, that is said out loud.
Approval and status
What regulators and sport bodies have actually said, separately from what the evidence shows.
Check the vial
The grade above describes a molecule studied under controlled conditions. It says nothing about the powder in a particular vial.
That gap is the one part of this market a reader can actually close. How to read a certificate of analysis covers the five measures in five minutes, and the 2026 audit grades vendors on the documents they publish against a rubric printed in full.
Questions we get
What is Epithalon used for?
On the human record, nothing yet. It is sold for telomere lengthening and anti-aging. The published support is cell culture, where epitalon raises hTERT and lengthens telomeres in human cells 15.
The rest is one lifetime mouse study in which average lifespan did not change 4. No trial has given this peptide to a person and measured an outcome.
How is Epithalon used?
Descriptively, and not as guidance: subcutaneous injection from a reconstituted vial, in short courses of 10 to 20 days repeated once or twice a year. That pattern comes from forums and vendor protocol pages, not from a study.
The only published dosing for the peptide itself is in mice, about 30 to 40 micrograms per kilogram, five days a month, for life 4.
How long does Epithalon take to work?
Nothing in the literature says. No human trial measured onset. The claimed outcome, telomere length, produces no sensation, so there is nothing a person could feel that would confirm it. The Russian clinical courses ran for years before mortality was counted, and those courses used a different preparation 23.
Is Epithalon the same thing as Epithalamin?
No, and the difference carries most of the marketing. Epithalamin is a bovine pineal extract, a mixture. Epithalon is one synthetic tetrapeptide drawn from that idea.
The human studies quoted for Epithalon dosed the extract 23. That is 266 older adults with mortality down 1.6 to 1.8-fold, and a 12-year study in elderly cardiac patients.
Has any Western group replicated this?
Partly, and only in cells. A 2025 Brunel University study found dose-dependent telomere lengthening in normal human cell lines, through hTERT and telomerase 5.
In cancer cell lines it also lengthened telomeres, through an alternative pathway 5. That is the first independent confirmation of the cell-culture claim. No group outside St Petersburg has repeated the clinical work.
